Fun In the Sun

In the summer time where ever you go the sun goes with you.  You have to take care to stay hydrated and keep your skin protected.  From going on a road trip, to a trip to the zoo, an outdoor concert, shopping an outlet mall, going to a fair, and especially the beach.

Make sure you put your SPF on before you go out and reapply while you are out!  It is tempting to buy the cheep sunscreen put it on once and call it good.  But if you have sensitive skin or are prone to burning those blazing summer rays, you should be prepared.  It is also important to know what you are buying

An article on CNN in 2012 has a list of  ingredients to stay away from when buying sunscreen “sunscreens must be free of oxybenzone, retinyl palmitate (a type of vitamin A), not have SPF above 50 and protect against UVA and UVB sunrays.”

Yes to Grapefruit SPF 18

This is a very slightly tinted moisturizer that doesn’t add a lot of color or coverage in the pigment department.  It’s great for a day out and about.  It is a very light moisturizer doesn’t clog your pores and can be worn under make- up.

The Balm SPF 18

This is a tinted moisturizer with SPF 18.  It is a very creamy and covering lotion.  I use this in place of foundation and like that it covers but doesn’t clog my pores.

Color Correcting Stick SPF 20

I am new to the Stila line this being part of my first purchase and I really happy with it.  There is a green hue in the middle of the skin tinted color to cover up redness.  It is a great spot treatment or all over the face foundation.

EOS SPF 15

This is my favorite lip balm and I especially love the Lemon Drop flavor because it tastes like a lemon Starburst!  Lemon Drop is the only EOS lip balm that contain SPF.  The other flavors are great though and worth trying!  They go on clear with a little sheen.

Baby Lips SPF 20

These come in many colors and styles but there are only a few that contain SPF so you have to pay attention to the label which ones have SPF in them.  I like the tinted ones as well because they give your lips moisture and color.  I just have to remember to apply an SPF lip balm if I am going with the colored one when out for the day.

Sun Bum Lip Balm SPF 30

This has a lot of SPF for a lip balm.  It is a little sunscreen tasting but the pink grapefruit flavor helps to hide it.  It is fresh and moisturizing and not a sticky lip balm.

Sun Bum Face Stick SPF 30

Most of Sun Bum’s products do not contain any of the do not use chemicals but I just found out the one I have that is SPF 50 does contain  oxybenzone.  It is not banned but is uncertain if it can be absorbed by the skin.  In any case better to be safe than sorry.  This particular bottle of Sun Bum does not contain any of the bad stuff same as the lip balm.  Always remember a shorter ingredient list with words you can pronounce is always better!

Honest Company Sunscreen

This is Jessica Alba’s new company that is available at Target.  I want to go out right now and buy this sunscreen.  It rated one of the safest to use on the sunscreen scale and is natural.   You can grab your Lemon Drop EOS while you’re there!

Now that we covered all those sunscreens what about when you need to clean your skin?

Ocean Salt

This is made by the company LUSH that makes handmade cosmetics and tries to use as natural ingredients as possible.  Ocean salt is like stepping into the ocean without all the seaweed!  It has a saltly, lime zest smell.  Using fine salt, grapefruit and lime scents will uplift your senses and help sooth those rough areas like your feet and elbows.  I have sensitive skin and can use this on my face in moderation.  I only use it about once a week to exfoliate my face and I do not rub it into my skin.  I lightly massage the salt scrub on the top layer so my skin is not irritated by the coarseness of a scrub but lightly exfoliated.

9 to 5 Cleanser

This face cleanser is gentle and easy to use.  There are days when you are just too tired to wash your face but you have make-up on and you really should!  Also when I want to go to the gym but don’t want to dry out my face by over-washing.  I grab a cotton square and a dab of 9-5 and it takes off my make-up and dirt and oil.

Tea Tree Water

This is great for people with oily or combination skin.  You can spritz this on your face of spray onto a cotton square to purify your pores.  I even use this on irritated skin to help sooth it.  It doesn’t sting like most astringents because they contain alcohol.  Tea Tree oil is all natural but usually kind of stinky in it’s pure form.  This version adds some soothing scents grapefruit and juniperberry water, after it drys you can’t even notice the toner on your skin.
